Led by SUNY Oneonta Students, who are coordinating virtual walkathon for Emily. Our plan is to have a physical walkathon in Sayville on the same day.

“Love, Emily” is our pilot program at Cherry Avenue Elementary School to create age appropriate K-5 weekly themes and activities for the month of October, which is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Public Witness Day is October 15, which is Emily’s birthday.

MS/HS Curriculum: DV/IPV/Teen Dating Violence
This bill amends the New York education law to address teen dating violence by requiring school districts to develop comprehensive education programs for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The bill defines teen dating violence as emotional, electronic, sexual, or physical abuse within a romantic or intimate relationship, regardless of whether the relationship is ongoing. School districts must create policies and procedures that include age-appropriate curriculum about healthy relationships, warning signs of dating violence. The legislation also expands existing harassment and bullying definitions to explicitly include teen dating violence, and mandates that civility and character education curricula incorporate information about preventing and discouraging such violence. The bill was developed in consultation with the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and aims to proactively educate students about healthy relationship dynamics and prevent dating violence. This is part of a targeted educational effort in Florida, California and New York in collaboration with the Gabby Petito Foundation and the Empowerment Project
